Dr. Courtney Karmelita
Since graduating with her D.Ed from Penn State in 2016, Dr. Courtney Karmelita continued her dissertation research on adult learners transitioning to higher education in a series of publications before shifting her research focus to improving education in the responsible conduct of research, specifically the handling of research integrity allegations. In 2017, Dr. Karmelita was awarded the Student Research Award from the NACADA.
Dr. Karmelita brings extensive skills and experience in research integrity, quality assurance, data management best practices, and education outreach. She has successfully led programs focused on research protections and has a strong track record in resource development and evaluation, particularly in the context of research integrity and quality assurance. Her recent contributions include co-hosting HHS’ Office of Research Integrity’s (ORI) RIO Boot Camp and consulting on training initiatives for new Research Integrity Officers. Dr. Karmelita was also the co-PI on a grant from ORI resulting in research-backed training modules for faculty assisting with research misconduct cases.
Her expertise was highlighted in a plenary session at PRIM&R 2023, leading to an invitation to co-host a pre-conference workshop for PRIM&R 2024. Additionally, she has been invited to develop a workshop for CITI on identifying ethical red flags in research.
Dr. Karmelita also has ample experience with policy development and the standardization of procedures to improve the efficacy of data stewardship, research integrity and compliance programs.
